Application Instructions

How to Apply

Complete an online application form and pay the $75 nonrefundable application fee. You will be asked to create an account and set a password before beginning the application.

For detailed directions,  click the “Instructions” button at the top of each page of the application. At any point you can save your progress and return at a later date, but once you submit your application, you can no longer go back to edit or add to it. Instead, please email us any new information. 

Completed application due dates:

Students applying for financial aid: Friday, March 1, 2024, at noon ET

All other students: Saturday, June 1, 2024, 5 pm ET

However, we encourage all applicants to submit their materials as soon as possible, especially if you will need to apply for a visa to attend. 

The nonrefundable $75 application can be paid:

  • By using Payments Online.

  • By check, payable to NMH, written on a U.S. bank and in U.S. dollars.

  • By bank wire. Email Joanne Graves for details

  • By Flywire, via wire or international credit card.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS 

New applicants

Students who are not currently at NMH and are not applying to NMH for the 2024-25 academic year

  • Online application.

  • Application fee: $75 (unless you are applying for financial assistance).

  • Photo for campus ID card  (must show head and shoulders). 

  • Most recent grades from the 2023-24 academic year. 

    • If your semester or term is in progress, midterm grades are preferred. If midterms are not yet available, please provide a copy of your most recent grade report.

  • Two teacher recommendations: 

    • Current English teacher.

    • One other current, academic teacher. This must be from your current math teacher if you are applying for a math course. Recommendations must be requested through our online application. Letters of recommendation will not be accepted.

For international students who are NOT applying to the ELI program:

  • PDF of a graded English essay written for your current English class and showing your teacher's handwritten grade and comments.

  • A two-minute video of yourself talking about an unforgettable experience you had. You may not use any script or prompt cards — it should be a natural conversation.

  • TOEFL scores are not required unless you are applying to the outdoor leadership program, LEAD.

  • Copy of passport ID page or visa page:

  • If you do not currently attend a school in the U.S., send us a copy of the visa page of your passport. If you do not yet have a U.S. visa, send us a copy of your passport ID page.

  • If you currently attend a school in the U.S., send us (1) a copy of your passport ID page, (2) a copy of your F-1 visa page, and (3) a copy of all three pages of your current I-20 form.

Financial Aid Applicants

All applicants applying for financial aid must provide the following from both parents/financially responsible legal guardians:

Current or incoming NMH students who are already receiving or have applied for financial aid through the academic year office only need to submit the Summer financial aid form.

Current or incoming NMH students need only submit an NMH Summer financial aid form. 

No supporting documents are necessary if you already submitted them to the academic-year admission office.

Returning NMH Summer students applying for financial aid must submit:

  • PLUS two Teacher Recommendation forms, 

  • Financial Aid form plus 

  • W2(s), 

  • 1040(s) or, for international families, a notarized copy of the parents' most recent income tax report and earnings statement from their employer(s) replaces the W2 and 1040 forms.


CURRENT NMH STUDENTS

If you currently attend Northfield Mount Hermon, you only need to submit: 

STUDENTS APPLYING TO NMH FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR

If you have already submitted teacher recommendations and transcripts, you only need to submit:

  • online application 

  • application fee 

  • ID photo

  • International students: 

  • If you do not currently attend a school in the U.S., send us a copy of the visa page of your passport. If you do not yet have a U.S. visa, send us a copy of your passport ID page.

  • If you currently attend a school in the U.S., send us (1) a copy of your passport ID page, (2) a copy of your F-1 visa page, and (3) a copy of all three pages of your current I-20 form.

STUDENTS WHO HAVE PREVIOUSLY ATTENDED NMH SUMMER

You still need to click "Add an Applicant" to create and submit a new online application for 2024. Do not try to edit a previous application. Please submit:

  • Online application.

  • New ID photo.

  • Latest report card or transcript. 

  • For international students: Copy of your new passport or visa if the one previously submitted has expired.

Additional for returning students applying for Financial Aid:

  • PLUS two Teacher Recommendation forms, 

  • Financial Aid form plus 

  • W2(s), 

  • 1040(s) or, for international families, a notarized copy of the parents' most recent income tax report and earnings statement from their employer(s) replaces the W2 & 1040 forms.
